Richard began his career in retail, working for high street retailers like Boots, Burton and the Early Learning Centre where he was the UK and Europe’s Stores Director. Richard joined Imperial Cancer Research Fund in 1998 and was heavily involved in the merger with CRC which created Cancer Research UK in 2002. As Fundraising & Marketing Director he oversaw dramatic growth in fundraising from £200m to £500m, a successful rebrand in 2012 and the launch of Stand up to Cancer with Channel 4.
In a volunteering capacity, Richard has been a trustee of Willows Counselling, Chair of the Neuro Foundation and was Chair of the Institute of Fundraising until July 2017.
Richard joined Macmillan in October 2015. He believes Macmillan to be the most ambitious charity in the UK grappling with the nation’s biggest health related issue – cancer. His remit is to help Macmillan raise vital funds and awareness in order to help everyone with cancer live as fully as they can

I have always valued the power of drawing on someone else’s experience, expertise and insight and when I reflect on my own career it’s been just one or two individuals who have had the greatest impact on me. And it’s always been through their sharing, challenging and encouragement that I have been able to grow and develop. I would love to offer that same opportunity to a fundraiser with the hunger and drive to grow and succeed.”
